memento.

final year honours project

Memento is an experience designed to bring together grandparents and grandchildren. It provides a digital app where both users upload neglected memories using playful prompts. This then turns these moments into memory tokens that can be collected from the memento box randomly each day. The spontaneous interaction of receiving an unexpected memory provides a basis for more meaningful reminiscing with loved ones.

an app that separates those crucial memories in your camera roll from thousands of screenshots

Memento combines a digital app experience and physical product interaction in order to materialise memories. With technology advances meaning younger generations have cluttered up camera rolls with thousands of photos, memento uses prompts to select and collect the meaningful memories and turn them into physical tokens shared with older generations.

Using technology was essential in crafting the box. From the Arduino components that come together with coding to make the internal parts work, from the laser cut box design which uses live hinges to make the round edges.

The decorative front face of the design is made from an eco-material called jesmonite and resembles that of ceramic.
